Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy — La Feria, Texas

TJ73 started as a brand for people who came to this late, got hurt, got up, and kept training anyway. Now it has a home.

We are a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy on Expressway 83 in La Feria, serving the Rio Grande Valley. Kids and adults. Gi and no-gi. No egos on the mat, no contracts, no pressure — just good instruction and people who show up for each other.

Your Head Coach

Jose "TrooperJoe" Izeta — Founder & Head Coach

Brown belt under Professor Jake Montalvo. I came to jiu-jitsu at 46 after years of teaching Army combatives to new soldiers and defensive tactics at Texas DPS — retired State Trooper, retired Senior Drill Sergeant, 27+ years of military service, and a former child abuse investigator with Texas DFPS. I run TJ73 Jiu Jitsu on fundamentals, live training, and earned belts. Kids and adults welcome, no experience required.

Programs

Minis — ages 4 to 7
Our youngest students. Coordination, discipline, confidence, and how to handle themselves.
Young — ages 8 to 13
Older kids and teens. Real technique, real training, age-appropriate intensity.
Adults — 14 and up
Gi and no-gi for every level, from day one white belts to competitors. Beginners are always welcome.

Placement is by readiness, not birthday. If your child is close to a cutoff, come talk to me.

Schedule

Monday – Thursday
Minis — 5:15 to 6:00 PM
Young — 6:00 to 7:00 PM
Adults — 7:00 to 8:30 PM

Sunday
Open Mat — 11:00 AM

Membership

Month to month. No long-term contract, no cancellation penalty.

Adult — $100 / month
One child — $125 / month
Two children — $200 / month
Each additional child — $75 / month

Visitors & Drop-Ins

Traveling through, training at another academy, or just want to roll? You're welcome here.

Open mat — Sundays at 11:00 AM. Free. Always. We don't charge for open mat.
Single class drop-in — $20
Visitor week pass — $25, unlimited classes for 7 days. One per person.
Your first class — free, no commitment

Try the week, then decide. Sign up for a membership within 7 days of your week pass and we apply the full $25 to your first month.

Every visitor signs a liability waiver before stepping on the mat — paid or free, white belt or black belt. No exceptions.

Our Coaching Staff

Peyton Garcia — Head Kids Coach. Blue belt. Runs our youth program and is the reason a lot of these kids love training.

Jorge Soto — Assistant Instructor. Purple belt.

Your First Class Is Free

Come try it. No sales pitch, no commitment. Wear athletic clothes without zippers or pockets, bring water, and show up a few minutes early.
